Improving the Built Environment through Research, Design, and Technology

Green Guidelines & Studies

Cities and states around the country are adopting green building guidelines to encourage the construction of sustainable, high-performance buildings. Steven Winter Associates, Inc. is highly qualified and experienced in creating these guidelines, and has been retained by major cities, states and private sector developers to write their standards and guidelines.

In addition to LEED, SWA has experience with a host of other green standards and methodologies including The Natural Step, Green Communities, Green Building Tax Credits, and local and regional green building programs. SWA manages the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council, creators of the Whole Building Design Guide to incorporate elements such as acoustical comfort, accessibility, safety and security into the array of more commonly recognized “green” elements like energy efficiency and water conservation.

When a company, organization, or municipality wishes to incorporate green standards into a project or into business operations, SWA works within the client’s unique objectives and constraints to develop a customized green standard or guideline.
