|

Project Overview

SWA developed an electronic survey that aimed to gather community insight on the existing design and wayfinding systems of the library to offer unique wayfinding strategy and key recommendations. Approximately 350 individuals participated over a 3-4 week period, with the survey offered in both English and Spanish to ensure inclusivity for a diverse range of users.

Strategies include but are not limited to color coding, code signage, directories, arrival, digital signage and technological aids. Key features include sensory room directional signage which uses the triangle pattern from the YPL Brand Guidelines as tactile elements to draw visitors towards the space and begin the sensory experience.

Project Goals

Identified goals of the wayfinding strategies were to increase visibility of signage and increase awareness and interest in library spaces offered.

The community also hoped to ensure recommendations effectively accommodate the needs of people with physical, visual, hearing, and cognitive disabilities, while also ensuring user experiences are inclusive across other aspects of human diversity including language, culture, gender, age, disability, neurodiversity, and LGBTQIA+ identity, as applicable.
