SWA Receives U.S. EPA’s 2013 Indoor airPLUS Leader Award

DECEMBER 02, 2013

Steven Winter Associates, Inc. (SWA) has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a 2013 Indoor airPLUS Leader for advancing indoor air quality in residential construction and working at the forefront of the healthy homes movement.
A total of 3 organizations received this award, out of nearly 400 Indoor airPLUS Rater partners for certifying and reporting the most homes that have earned the Indoor airPLUS label in 2012.

Indoor airPLUS is a partnership between EPA, builders and Home Energy Raters and other allies to improve indoor air quality in new homes. Homes with the Indoor airPLUS label include design and construction features that can help protect families from a host of health problems associated with poor indoor air quality, including asthma, allergies, eye irritation, and headaches, as well as other respiratory problems.

“These Raters are true industry leaders. They are committed to the construction of healthier homes and to improving the quality of life for their occupants. While Indoor airPLUS Raters and builders are setting themselves apart from the competition, home owners are benefitting from increased comfort, improved indoor air quality and reduced long-term maintenance costs,” said Dave Rowson, Director of EPA’s Indoor Environments Division, Office of Air and Radiation.

“We are honored to be receiving this award for the second straight year. Our energy efficiency work is not complete if it does not also improve indoor air quality and protect occupant health,” said Maureen Mahle, Vice President and Director of Sustainable Housing Services at Steven Winter Associates.

Indoor airPLUS certified homes offer homebuyers all the features they want in a new home, plus moisture control, radon control, pest barriers, improved heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, combustion pollutant control, low emission materials and third party verification. All Indoor airPLUS certified homes also meet guidelines set by ENERGY STAR® Certified Homes Program, the nationally recognized label for energy efficiency.
