NYC’s Building Emissions Law: What You Need to Know
On April 18, the New York City Council passed the most ambitious building emissions legislation enacted by any city in the world. The new law places buildings on a path to meet the city’s goal to reduce overall carbon emissions 80 percent by 2050. Buildings represent nearly 70 percent of those emissions. This session will provide an overview of the law and the critical, unresolved policy issues. Building experts will explore the details of the legislation, including the key pieces left for rulemaking, why they are important, and how they might be addressed. Topics will include the advisory board, reduction metric, emissions coefficients, renewables offset, and carbon or efficiency trading.
