Through our work with these New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HUD) programs, SWA has provided technical assistance for the electrification of over 40 affordable housing buildings.
Research & Programs
SWA acts as the technical assistance provider (TAP) for NYC’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) Affordable Housing Retrofit Electrification Pilot (Pilot).
The Pilot enables resilient and equitable electrification of multifamily affordable housing moderate and gut rehabs by providing developers up to a $2 million grant and technical assistance in phase one.
In addition to developing and maintaining the technical requirements for the program, SWA consolidated lessons learned from the 15+ projects to inform the local market and scale cost-effective electrification across HPD’s affordable housing programs.
This program closed in August 2024.
The second phase of this effort is the Resilient & Equitable Decarbonization Initiative Existing Buildings (REDi:EB) program.
SWA and partner firm Taitem Engineering support HPD and NYSERDA in incorporating electrification of hot water and space heating with envelope improvements into scopes of work for HPD-financed preservation projects.
SWA supports electrification pilot projects from development through construction completion.
