Maureen Mahle Recognized as a Top Professional Under 40

Steven Winter Associates (SWA) Vice President and Director of Sustainable Housing Services, Maureen Mahle, has been recognized by Professional Builder Magazine as one of the nation’s top residential homebuilding professionals under the age of 40.
Professional Builder’s 40 Under 40 recognizes homebuilding professionals in North America who have made an outstanding contribution to the industry in the past year. The recipients of the annual award are selected based on leadership skills, personal integrity and other professional attributes, as well as their recent portfolio of work completed. The publication states that the awarded individuals “represent the next generation of leadership and innovation in home building,” according to their website
“I am honored to receive one of Professional Builder’s 40 Under 40 Awards,” stated Mahle. “This distinction serves as a wonderful affirmation of the significance of green building in the residential market.”
Mahle, a Civil and Environmental Engineer, has changed the way the region’s housing is designed, built, and operated by overseeing the implementation of LEED® and other green building criteria. Along with directing SWA’s sustainable housing services group, Mahle lead the adaptation of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification for midrise multifamily projects; co-chaired the national LEED Technical Committee for the USGBC; and served on the LEED for Homes Version 4 Working Group. She is also a regular presenter at regional and national conferences and a board member of Home Energy magazine.
Mahle’s has made strides to raise practitioner awareness about the intrinsic tie between indoor air quality and occupant health, and the necessity for addressing it within green building and energy efficiency standards. For the past two consecutive years, her efforts in this area have yielded the Environmental Protection Administration’s (EPA) Indoor airPLUS award for her project work. She has co-published research papers for SWA’s Consortium for Advanced Residential Building (CARB) and the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC). Mahle has provided support to the Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development with inspections, testing, analysis, and information dissemination of hurricane resistant housing, panelized construction technologies, high-performance HVAC, and ventilation systems.
