Mamaroneck Self Storage Takes Top Commercial Honor
Mamaroneck Self Storage is the recipient of the 2016 HOBI Award for Best Green Commercial Project by The HBRA of Connecticut. The HOBI Awards are the most prestigious awards presented annually by the Connecticut-based association of construction professionals recognizing excellence in design, construction, sales and marketing, and financing by members of the organization.
Mamaroneck Self Storage, owned and constructed by Murphy Brothers Contracting of Mamaroneck, NY, is a 40,000 SF state of the art facility designed by local architect Kim Martelli. The facility was built according to NYSERDA’s New Construction Program energy-efficiency guidelines under the direction of nationally renowned energy consulting firm, Steven Winter Associates. The energy upgrades that Murphy Brothers incorporated into the construction make the building over 52% more energy-efficient than required by the building code, resulting in anticipated annual electric cost savings of over $30,000. NYSERDA rebates for energy upgrades and solar came close to $50,000.
“Award-winning projects are always the result of teamwork,” said Murphy Brothers President, Chris Murphy. “We are grateful to our entire team for what they contributed to building a very successful building and business as reflected by this award.” In attendance at the award presentation were BETCO Representatives Henry Tracz Jr. and Henry Tracz III, providers of the steel building structure, as well as Mamaroneck Self Storage managers, Aly Powell and Laura Murphy. This was one of four individual awards presented to the Murphy Brothers team at the HBRA-CT annual dinner, including Best Exterior Home Feature, Outstanding Library and Best (commercial) Adaptive Reuse.
