SWA Becomes Passive House Institute Certifier
April 4, 2019
The Passive House team at Steven Winter Associates, Inc. (SWA) has become one of only two firms located in the United States to be listed as an official certifier for the Passive House Institute (PHI). By extending this service offering, SWA can significantly contribute to the growth of the Passive House market in the U.S.
“This is an exciting step for our team,” says Lois Arena, Director of Passive House Services at SWA. “By becoming an accredited certifier, we have the opportunity to provide homes and businesses in the U.S. with easier access to certification through the Passive House Institute.”
The expansion of SWA’s Passive House services is no coincidence. The market for Passive House has been growing rapidly in recent years, both in the residential and commercial sectors. Additionally, the size and sophistication of projects has reached a new height, quite literally. More high-rise buildings are being designed to Passive House standards thanks to advancements in design strategies, construction processes, building materials, and incentives.
Under Lois’ leadership, the Passive House team at SWA has developed more experience working on large-scale Passive House projects than any other consultant in North America. Now, the team looks forward to acting as a certifier for future projects seeking PHI certification.
About the PHI Certifier Credential
Those seeking to earn the status of PHI Certifier are evaluated by proficiency and experience. To qualify, one must already be a Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC) with considerable experience working on Passive House certified projects from design through construction. Next, candidates must enroll in additional training that covers the latest PHI certification requirements and focuses on the critical modeling and verification process needed for a project to receive certification.
