Uncovering the Code: An Update on NYC’s New Energy Code
Course Description:The 2015 New York City Energy Conservation Code was released and has been in use since January 1 of this year. The new code is an adaptation of the 2014 New York State Code, and varies from its predecessors in both substantial and subtle ways. Its interpretation and enforcement have been closely aligned with Mayor Bill de Blasio’s vision for a sustainable NYC and its One City Built to Last program.The code will help to define the ways in which commercial and multifamily properties will be designed, built, upgraded and operated; and will play an important role in the achievement of the city’s energy efficiency and emissions goals.
Learning Objectives:
- Review code compliance pathway options and applicability of energy codes to Commercial buildings in New York City
- Learn what is required by the Department of Buildings to be shown in the construction documents to indicate project compliance with the energy code
- Understand the various progress inspections that are required by the Department of Buildings.
- Review a selection of recent changes to the energy code that are new or major changes from previous energy codes
