UOVO Art and Fashion Storage

Project Overview

UOVO acquired this 1950s uninsulated warehouse building with the intent of renovating it to a museum-quality facility with ASHRAE-level environmental conditions year-round. Their requirements included a temperature of 70 degrees and 50% relative humidity, assembly air-barrier and vapor control, interior surface dew point and condensation control, and assembly durability and cost effectiveness.

SWA initiated efforts with a comprehensive existing conditions assessment and full characterization of all to-remain enclosure assemblies. This served as a baseline for needed repairs to remaining elements and a starting point for designing augmented assemblies with thermal, air, and vapor control layers as well as thermal bridging control to achieve the project requirements.

Initial designs were tested and refined using WUFI Pro hygrothermal and THERM temperature gradient analysis. Once optimized, thermal and moisture control attributes were met, the assemblies were refined, and the designs were finalized. Working with the design team, SWA reviewed and marked up all relevant enclosure details including walls, fenestration, roofs, and basement walls to ensure performance and economic constructability.

SWA performed full construction administration services, with project completion and occupancy occurring in 2021.
